About Michaela Flatley
Michaela Flatley is a professional artist, designer, and business owner living and working in Boston. She is a lifelong painter, and received her Masters of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2019. Michaela is currently represented by His Daughter Paloma Gallery in Lenox, MA, and shows her paintings throughout the country.
Michaela’s art practice centers on the motif of the grid, drawing inspiration from traditionally domestic and craft-based forms such as quilting, weaving, embroidery, and mosaics—mediums historically marginalized within the fine art canon due to their associations with femininity and domestic labor. Her work explores the intersection of these decorative arts with the formal language of modern art.
In addition to her art practice, Michaela owns The Local Hand, a shop and community arts space in Boston. The Local Hand offers a curated selection of handmade goods by local artists, in addition to creative workshops, events, and artist shows. Since 2017, Michaela has also run a graphic design and digital marketing business, Barley Creative, where she works with nonprofits and start-ups.
In her spare time, Michaela likes to go to museums, cook, read interior design blogs, and take her two children to the playground.
